Houston Car Buyer | Tips For Selling Your Used Car

With a little guidance it may be quite a stress free experience to sell your car by yourself. This experience can be made easier by a set of guide lines.

Get to know the tips that work in finalizing a good deal.

1. Market Knowledge: Being knowledgeable bout the market and your car can save you a lot of trouble. Get answers to questions like: is your car in demand? Do you need to cut the price because it is not a quick selling model? Know the right time to sell your car. Do a little bit of research on the internet to find out about similar types of cars in the market and their prices. Also, obviously, if your car has less mileage you can ask for more.

2. Set a price for your car: Do this only after taking into account condition, mileage, place of sale. Price your car competitively. Leave some place for negotiation… which means ask for a little more than just the book value. Remember to configure a price that is reasonable and can stand the competition fairly. A price which will get you the calls coming in.

3. Get Your Car ready: Memorize: “First impression is the best impression”, so ensure your car makes a good impression when a buyer comes to see it. The best way of alluring your customers is to make sure your car is in great condition. Get the interiors and exteriors of your car well cleaned, inspect your car for any kind of body or mechanical problems. Get a mechanic to prepare a report on the condition of your car… this really works and adds credibility to your car’s condition. Collect all the documents related to the maintenance and place them neatly in a folder to present it to the prospective buyer. You will not only look more organized and motivated to sell your car, you will present an image of professionalism and efficiency. This will ease the buyer’s process by causing him/her less stress.

4. Prepare and Place Ads for sale: Before you place your ad do not forget to prepare one efficiently! For that you need ample information about your car such as model, make, year and other characteristics. Do not forget to highlight strong characteristics of your car. While preparing ads you can include some signs that convey a definite meaning to potential buyers such as include “OBO” to indicate that you will entertain offers below the stated price, include “Asking Price “ if there is room for negotiation or include “Firm” that means you are firm about the price and are not in hurry to sell your car. After the ad is prepared it is time to place it. Look out for the possible places to place it, be creative, however you can choose to place in a newspaper, go Online or use WOM (word of mouth) to talk about it.

5. Let potential buyers see your car: It is not only about selling your car it has everything to do with you too. Do not forget yourself and your role in the entire selling process. Make buyers feel comfortable and answer their questions without shilly-shallying. Be prepared to take them for a test drive, offer to accompany them, for the reason that they may not know the way around and also to answer any further questions they have. Show the mechanic’s report on the car’s condition and if they still want to show it to another mechanic they know, accept it happily because you have nothing to loose. This will actually work in your favor. The fact that they want to proceed to the step of taking your car to be checked by their mechanic shows they are genuinely interested in your car.

6. Settle the Car price: If a test ride is approved by the potential buyers it is time to listen to their offer. Keep in mind that it should be a win-win situation for both the parties. It is good to do some home work for this part of selling process so that you are not caught in an unprepared situation. Consider the aspects you talk about and settle for a price that benefits both parties.

7. Avoid complications and finalize the deal as quickly as possible: Any communication related misunderstanding, be it related to car performance or pricing should be cleared at the outset. Iron out all doubtful issues to avoid complications at the time of negotiating the deal. Every state has its own set of laws governing sales of used cars. Approach this information on the internet or any other suitable means. After the deal is finalized and you receive cash or a cashier’s check, hand over the signed title and bill of sale to the buyer. You can either transfer your insurance coverage to your new car or else cancel the policy on the car that you sold.

Do not forget to inform concerned RTO about the sale. In case the vehicle you sold is involved in an accident, fraud or other such related case you being the original owner will be responsible for it. Inform the concerned authorities about the change of ownership as soon as possible.
